The Grim Reaper is eliminating all of the assassins that were trained by Lovro. He now has his sight set on Irina and 3-E. The students are trying to come up with a present for Irina’s birthday, but that doesn’t exactly go as planned for the students, and Irina leaves. The Grim Reaper abducts Irina and orders the students to arrive at the designated location to rescue her. Once the students arrived they were immediately captured. The Grim Reaper plans to use them as bait to lure Koro Sensei into his trap. The students escape their cell, and separate to cover more ground, and find Irina. The Grim Reaper easily incapacitated team A and has moved onto finding the other the students. Team B finds Irina but instead of Irina being grateful she turns on the students. It is now up to Karasuma to defeat the Grim Reaper.

So much was crammed into this volume. I didn’t think that we would see the Grim Reaper so soon to be honest, but looking back he actually made an appearance in volume 11. The Grim Reaper’s skills are unparalleled in several regards, he was even able to capture Koro Sensei with ease. I actually like the Grim Reaper except for the fact he was able sway Irina to join him.

There wasn’t much in the development of the individual characters, however the story has developed nicely. I would have never thought that Irina would betray her students in this fashion. She has a rocky past with the students but nothing that would deem this to be a viable option or possibility. Though I hope she isn’t gone for good, I cannot forsee her being able to come back after leading her students to literal doom.

This volume has introduced a new point of view of the characters for me. The students and Koro Sensei looked helpless and were easily captured. The Grim Reaper has outsmarted everyone except for Karasuma. Karasuma truly shines in this volume and exhibits his skills. Without question the only person to be able to go toe to toe with the Grin Reaper would have to be Karasuma.

Assassination Classroom volume 12 was a interesting read. Not so progressive in the character department, but amazing as far as the story is concerned. Definitely one of the weaker entries in the series as the characters who have developed so much throughout the series were made useless, but this volume is still worth a read.
