With Light still a suspect he is doing everything he can to stay ahead of L and the special task force. Even after having his room bugged and monitored Light still manages to work towards his goal of making a peaceful world without raising more suspicion. L pushes the limits even further as he directly introduced himself to Light in hopes of figuring out if Light is indeed Kira. Once L begins to trust Light another person claiming to be Kira emerges with their own Death Note and begins killing people in hopes of gaining the real Kira’s attention. Will this new Kira pose as a problem or as a solution for Light?

This volume was absolutely full of developments. The story is becoming intense as the NPA and L seemingly close in on Light not for Light to be saved by fate. Though Light is still a suspect he is asked to help with the investigation. A second Shingami with their own Death Note has come to Japan. A person comes into possession of that Death Note as well though not much has been disclosed regarding that. All we know is that they want to find the real Kira.

This is a very solid volume. I do not have any complaints whatsoever. This series is rather thought provoking and I have found myself wondering if I could even do these things and even more so wondering whose side I’m on. An ideal society would be nice but that isn’t how the world works.

Light is highly intelligent and mature yet at times he thinks like a child and his passion for winning often times clouds his judgement. This series has some of the most robust characters, in my opinion. L is genuinely eccentric and brilliant. Though L also hates to lose he is more levelheaded and calculating. A game of wits between L and Light has proven to be nothing less than interesting and entertaining.

With everything happening in the series the last thing I would have expected was another person to have a Death Note. That opens up so many opportunities and avenues that this story could go down. I have many questions and theories due to this new plot point, and I hope a few of them come true.

All things considered I am hopelessly hooked on this series. I am very nervous and excited to see how this whole thing plays out. It was simple when it was just Light and L but things have changed now that a new Kira has come to town and could potentially undo all of Light’s hard work. We will see in time. Excellent read.
